A horizontally gifted women

Just an image I created from a spiky plant over here.

Today I went to a discussion group for mom's with 8 month children. Jolene is a little older but I went in hopes of finding a mom's group to join. I was invited to one and will probably go this Friday. Jolene during the class dominated all the other children. She was the only one really crawling so she just went around the room visiting each child and then proceeded to crawl on them or take their toy away. We will be trying to teach sharing and "that is not your toy right now" asap. I think this concept might be a difficult one seeing as though selfishness in a baby comes to the surface very quickly in life.

About the title. Jolene and I walked to the library after the class and on the way there saw a interesting women. She was horizontally gifted ( she was overweight by a lot) and was riding on a motorized scooter. Now this isn't usually very funny but it was today because around her feet sat two fluffy, yippy, chihuahuas. They looked at me and seemed to say "make way, here come your equals" , "we are the chihuahuas of the scooter and can go where ever we please". I wish I had a camera : -)

Sarah and I are going to Ikea Wednesday! Heavenly bliss, I think that this store is probably the only one that is actually larger than a Super Wal-Mart.

Tomorrow night all of us from church who went to the evangelism class are going to get together and talk about ways to apply what we have learned, how to encourage each other, and then pray for recent opportunities.

Brandon and I are getting better at the whole serving coffee and tea to people when they come over. The first time we had people over they made it themselves but last Thursday night we did (insert a music clip of fanfare or the Hallelujah chorus). So come on ever!!! We will serve you up a mean cup of tea, coffee, milo, or the like.

The past weekend and the coming one

Last weekend we went to Frankston for Tamara and Charity's b-days. A good time was had by all. We had a BBQ (of course), played games by Josh McE., the girls opened gifts, people tried to throw Matt Glover into the swimming pool but didn't succeed, and last but not least Irish dancing.

We actually left before the dancing due to the bedtimes of Eleni and Jolene being past due. We stayed the night in McKinnon and then worshipped with them Sunday morning. The church seems to be in good spirits and you can tell that Ed Blackwood is very excited about being there and ministering to those in the church.

There wasn't a whole lot that happened this week. Monday we went to the Reformed Theological College and had tea with the foreign students there. Brandon, I and another couple are trying to think of ways to share the gospel and we realized that these foreign students are interested and need to hear it. We have talked about ways to get to know them better and have decided to start having them over for lunch on Sunday afternoons. They are not fed at the RTC on Sundays so we thought that would be a good ministry opportunity. There are two evangelistic Bible studies going on at the RTC for the students. One is for the guys and the other for the girls. Pray that God would work in the students hearts. Many of them are interested in knowing what Christianity is about but only for learning purposes.

It is funny how interested the foreign students are in what Christianity is about and how the Australian students could care less. There is a real need in the young Australian hearts, the problem is how to get them interested enough to come. Right now prayer is the biggest thing. Pray that God would work in the young Australian hearts here. They just don't care at all about anything spiritual.

This weekend we are going to Dixon's Creek ( the camp owned by the RPCA). We are going there for a workday. The big family camp is coming up Easter weekend, so there are many projects that need to be taken care of. We are going to spend the night Friday night there, hopefully no spiders will be seen. : -)

We will try to take some pics and them post them next week so you can see the camp.

Below are some pics of when Brandon, Jolene, and I went to the You Yangs (tall hills). We saw a live Koala!!For real!

Google vision

Google has just launched a new interactive site. Google has taken their maps program and applied it to the moon (has been around for a while) and just recently Mars.

You can scroll around the surface and check out the features. Google has also highlighted where landings have occurred along with, dates, names, and stories.

If you go to the moon map and zoom in all the way you will get a little surprise. It seems Google has solved one of those popular questions of all times.

Here are the links to the moon and Mars.

MOON

MARS

Since we are on the topic of the moon you might be interested in checking out Virgin Galactic. It is some fun reading, this company is planning on flying people to the moon for fun. You can buy shares now, I think. Last time I had checked on them they still hadn't gone public.

Jolene just woke up, we need to go grocery shopping and go to the library. Tata,

Lawn Bowling

Saturday we went lawn bowling with the young adult group. There are several criteria that must be met in order to play this sport.

1. You must own a complete outfit in the color white

2. You must own some sort of hat, preferably a broad rim, straw hat.

3. You must be over the age of 50

Lawn bowling is not really like bowling at all. It is probably closer to bochi ball.
First of all you play on a grass court. The grass is cut so close to the dirt you would not think it could survive, but some how it does. I guess it is similar to the grass on the green of a golf course, but am not 100% sure seeing as though I have never played true golf.

The Equipment:

- A little white ball known as "the jack"
- Two larger black balls/per person that are not completely round (I'm not sure what they are called).
-Flat shoes or bare feet
-Your white outfit
-A plastic mat

How to Play:

Form your teams. Usually 2-3 teams of 2-3 people. Start at one end of the lawn and roll the jack to the other side of the lawn. Each person then takes a turn rolling their first black ball towards the jack. After the first balls have been rolled down the lawn each person then rolls their second ball down to the jack.
The object of the game is to get as close to the jack as possible. You can knock other people's black balls away from the jack. A team will receive points for the number of balls it has closest to the jack.

A good roll will get your ball within a few inches of the jack.

This seems fairly easy right?

Well the hard is this.

1. The lawn is really, really flat with absolutely no bumps or holes. It is hard to judge how far a ball will roll when friction as been reduce to as little as possible.

2. One side of the ball is weighted. This means that it won't roll in a straight line. In order to handle this you put the weighted side of the ball closest in line with the jack. Then when you roll the ball you aim wide and the ball will then curve in as it heads down the green. Basically the ball has a natural curve to it when rolled down the lawn.
This curving action sometimes makes it hard to judge how wide you should aim and the like.

All in all a good day was had. Brandon and I both had a few good ones, which made our teacher very proud.

Cheerio! Meg
