My friend Jeana tagged me. So I am supposed to write six random things about myself and tag six more bloggers to do the same. Here they are in no important order
1) My most favorite shoes of all time were my Nike Pegasus running shoes. I had these when I first started running, probably for the mini-marathon I did with my dad. I was in love with these shoes. They were black with white swooshes. I thought I could run forever in those. I wish I still had them.
2) A friend of mine from grade school and I taught ourselves how to write our names in hieroglyphics. We were obsessed with archeology and ancient Egyptian history. So we went to the library and found everything we could on hieroglyphics. We figured out the symbols for letters or similar sounds and then spelled our names with the symbols. It was lots of fun.
3) I love exploring. If I could do that as a job I would. It is not a very good mom/wife job though. The most exciting place I would want to explore right now is Antarctica's Lake Vostok.
4) "Follow the carbons". Some very good advice that I still remember from my Biochem 531 class. Probably one of the hardest classes I took at uni.
5) I can never remember the date on which Brandon and I got married. Now that doesn't mean I don't think it is important, I just can never remember if it was the 2nd or the 3rd. This is actually good for Brandon because if he forgets I won't remember anyway and we will both continue to live in a happy state of ignorance :-)
6) Whenever I bought a new pair of soccer cleats I would always write "Loch Moy" on the white stripes (they were always Adidas). My family is part Scottish and Loch Moy is the clan battle cry. It means (if I remember correctly) "my lake". I really miss playing soccer.

Five more days, lying, and the last thing it saw before it died.
So far Brandon has been gone 6 days and now another five (all of this week). I can't say how thankful, once again, I am that he is going now and not right after Gideon came.
So last week I got really sick (102 fever, sinus stuff, etc.). Brandon was already gone and couldn't come home. Lets just say Tuesday was a very sad day. Thankfully there were willing hands from church to come help out. I was in a daze most of Tuesday from the fever and then just exhausted on Wednesday. Thankfully the sickness only lasted two days.
Last Thursday we spent the night at a friend's house. That helped a lot in breaking up the week. That Friday morning I had two doctor appointments for the girls, I went out of our friend's house to start the car and nothing. It almost turned over but just couldn't do it. So we didn't make it to the appointments and instead got to stay longer at our friends house, not a bad trade :-) The car only needed a battery and is now up and running again.
This week is going to be pretty laid back until the weekend comes. Jolene has her ballet recital on Saturday, dress rehearsal on Friday. We go to McKinnon on Sunday to worship because Brandon is leading the Psalms. Then Monday is when his parents arrive.
Lately I have been really struggling with Jolene over the issue of lying. She just started doing it and it really makes me sad. She does it straight to my face and without blinking. I am really struggling with how to best deal with this. She is disciplined for it but I haven't seen much change yet. This is probably the biggest issue I am praying for at the moment concerning the kids. Sometimes I wonder if I am explaining what lying is in a clear fashion. If any of you have good ways of explaining it I would be grateful. Her lying tends to be ones where she is placing all the blame on Adele, even when Adele is asleep and couldn't have possibly done it.
Last week was also hard for this reason. I caught Jolene in several lies and it was hard always having to deal with it on my own. I am trying to keep this in prayer every day.

This is the last picture our camera took. Jolene dropped it and it died. You served us well little camera, rest in peace.

Updates on old news
Sorry if the grammar and spelling are particularly poor (not that it is every that great to begin with) tonight. Between Adele crying most of the night and feeding Gideon I didn't get much sleep.
Brandon's business trip has finally come. He was gone two days last week and then Tuesday-Friday of this week. This week is crazy for me so it should go quickly despite B being gone. I have four doctor appts., a b-day party, and ballet class. I (and the kids) will be spending the night at a friend's house one night so that only leaves two other nights to deal with.
The machine seems to be in pretty good shape. Brandon and his boss just need to get a few things cleared up and then it will be taken apart and shipped down to Lara where they will put it back together.
The elder elections were held last week. Brandon was not elected. While it is disappointing knowing that there were people who didn't vote for him, we see it as a obvious sign from God that it just wasn't the time. Brandon said he was a bit relieved just because of how big of a commitment it is. I think many people in the church still believe that we are going back to the States in a few years. We haven't really spread the word that we feel that God is leading us to stay here more "permanently" (more than 5 years). Now, of course we are always open to God moving us somewhere else but for now we don't feel that is the case. So the "stay for five year" plan is no longer in place, it is more like we are staying until we feel a strong indication from God to move elsewhere.
Brandon's parents arrive in less then two weeks!
Gideon is growing like the weeds our yard consists of. He is now over 11 lbs. and gained 3cm in length over the past two weeks. I think Jolene gained about 0.5 cm between her 2 and 4 week checkups :-) He is now only waking once during the night to feed! Usually around 2 or 4am. It is so much better when I can get a solid 6 hours of sleep!

Daydreaming
As some of you might know I am a mustang lover. Thanks to my husband I am also a mustang owner. We own a 1968 silver coupe. It is at Brandon's parent's house, I miss driving it so very much.
So next year Ford is releasing the new 2010 Mustang. To celebrate they are asking people to submit their 'stang stories. Of course a celebration is nothing without a little competition and a prize. The prize they are offering up is a 2010 Mustang.
Brandon and I both decided to submit stories about our car, we have quite a few, in hopes that we might win. Now I have never won anything in my life and I seriously doubt it will start with a mustang. Still, it was fun thinking about the car and all the good stories we have with it.
Here is the story I submitted and then the poem (my husband had to one up me :-) ) B submitted. We will find out in a few weeks whether or not either or us wins.
My Story ( Had to be 250 characters or less)
Speeding Ticket and Easter Egg

The first time I drove a Mustang was the day I got engaged to my husband. He knew I loved them so as a surprise he picked me up in his friends ‘67 coupe. Before heading to dinner we went for a drive. I was behind the wheel barely able to contain my excitement. My boyfriend cautioned me to go easy on the pedal, but alas it was to no avail. Suddenly there were flashing lights and a siren. I received a hefty speeding ticket, we had dinner, got engaged and then went back to his dorm room where our family members were waiting. My dad asked if I had anything to show them? "Yeah," I replied, "a $175 speeding ticket, oh and a ring."
After that drive my fingers were forever itchy. Now I knew what it was like to drive one, to feel it under my feet. I wasn't going to forget.
A year later I had enough and told my husband I was desperate to buy one, could we please? He smiled and said we would talk about it later. The next day we went to his parents for Easter. My husband's dad enjoys putting together Easter egg hunts every year and today was no exception. I started out on my hunt, with my last clue taking me to the garage. I walked inside and there was a beautiful silver ‘68 coupe with an Easter basket on top. Within an egg were keys, my keys.
B's Poem
The Engagement

On a cold November night a girl and a boy went driving
in a borrowed '64 Mustang coupe he had procured while conniving
to woo this girl to be his bride
for he wanted her to be ever by his side.
You see the car was her favorite and driving it a dream come true
with a five-speed tranny and paint of metallic blue.
The girl was at the wheel, “slow down”, he said,
but alas her foot is made of lead.
Red and blue lights were soon flashing,
for the police officer had caught us dashing,
“I clocked you at eighty-five in a fifty zone”,
said the man in blue as his flashlight shone,
“Oh great”, thought the boy, “what a start to the night”, “
How can I now pop the question so that things turn out right?”
He needn't have worried, the magic of the Mustang was not lost,
for it would take more than a speeding ticket (he would shoulder the cost),
to put a damper on the delight that evening would bring,
when at the end he presented her with a ring.
“Yes!” she said, with a smile and a tear,
“I do agree to be your wife dear.”
This story is now ended but it is not the last by far
of many a tale involving the boy, the girl and a classic Mustang car.
