A convenient lie?

So Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth" won an Oscar the other night. All I can say is that it really disgusts me.

Here is an interesting article sent by a friend. The article gives stats on Gore's own power and gas usage for his Tennessee home. Now I can't say how accurate this information is. For all I know the reporter could be using flashy fonts to distract us from the not quite true "facts" being represented in the article. If that is the case maybe Gore should pass the Oscar on to them. After all shouldn't he acknowledge others who strive to do what he has done?

I went on to the World Blog site, this is what they had to say....

"Just days after Al Gore took home an Oscar for his film "An Inconvenient Truth," the Tennessee Center for Policy Research is calling the former vice president a hypocrite for consuming too much energy at his Belle Meade home. According to the Nashville Electric Service, Gore’s 10,000-square-foot mansion consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year. “As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson. While Gore's energy use seems extravagant, it must also be noted that Gore has purchased green power and is in the midst of a home renovation project that includes having solar panels installed. Kalee Krider, a spokeswoman for Gore, says groups like the Tennessee Center for Policy Research need to look at the big picture. But still, shouldn't Gore's present energy consumption raise questions?"

I will say that I need to watch the movie just to see where the holes are and so I know what his argument is. I think we might see if the young adults here at church want to come over and watch and then have a discussion. When I see it I will let you all know what I think. What I do know now is that God gave us this earth to live on and therefore we need to be the best stewards we can possibly be.

If you have seen the movie, let me know what you think about it.

Coming home, heat, and our church

So we don't spend our complete day learning about calculus, TCA cycle, and complex sentences. We like to have fun too!

Now that we have our plane tickets we have to start applying for passports again. Ours were damaged in the fire and we don't think LA customs will approve of them in their crispy state. Pray that we can get them quickly and that it isn't a big hassle. We also have to fill out paperwork for Adele as well, proving her citizenship and proving that we our her parents who are also American citizens. As of right now we have a whole drawer full of paperwork none of which is complete. We are going to be good little workers and spend the night filling in the blanks, ignoring the desire to call up Josh and Sarah to see if they want to watch illegal copies of Prison Break. We are at such a good part!!!!!!!!

Saturday and Sunday the temps were in the 100s. Saturday we went to the beach with a couple of girls from playgroup. It was nice being able to get together outside of play group. A bit more time to talk. I am contemplating trying to have them all over with their partners for a BBQ, I will see what happens in the next month or so.

Two weeks until Family Camp! We are going to camp again, hopefully we will all fit. Brandon and I are talking about having a test night at home just to make sure, don't want any surprises (like oh, Adele guess there isn't room for you, you will have to sleep outside). Brandon is helping Josh with games again. Basically this means that Josh comes up with a crazy name and then invents a few crazy rules to go with it. These sorts of games always include people running, balls, and safety zones. Good times!

We are having our Congregational meeting soon to talk about the building and the future in general. The session sees the need for more seating and also more class rooms. Basically we have two options, move or add on. This is a good problem in a way because God is blessing the church with growing numbers. The congregation has started talking about planting a church, but I think that will still be a ways off just from looking at the example of the new Immanuel
Church. God's timing is always perfect, it will be exciting to see God's direction in the next few years for the church here.

News, news, get your Geelong news!!!!!

First, I took Adele to the orthopedics today. They did another ultrasound on her hips and the doctor said that they are looking good. He said she only has to have the brace on at night now for the next 6 weeks. We then go in for a x-ray to check on how everything is progressing. If all looks good she will be done with everything. Now do you all know what this means for miss Adele? Thats right, more tummy time!!!! Adele's most favorite thing in the world (not). She will get used to it very soon.

One more big headline. We bought tickets to fly home!!! We will be arriving on June 12th and staying until July 17th. How cool is that? You might all want to break out your schedules at this time and mark out that whole period seeing as though you will want to spend every waking moment with us :-) We really would like to see as many people as possible so let us know when you all have the time and we will start scheduling.

We are flying with Qantas again, and very thankful for that as well. It cost a few extra hundred dollars but it will be well worth it. I mean Qantas gives you your own pair of socks, a toothbrush, and a eye cover thingmajig, that is surely worth the extra $200/ticket.....right????

I think that is all the big news for now. I need to go get dinner ready and then we are heading off to McEwens to watch House, 24, and something else but I forgot.

I like this pic

I went over and had tea with my next door neighbor the other day. Her name is Heather and she is very nice. She has five kids and five grandkids. It is nice to have a neighbor that I actually know. It seems so hard to meet the people living around us. You almost never see anyone, the fences help with that.

Brandon went surfing yesterday. I think it was pretty cold. There are a couple of other guys in the church that go out with him. One guy in particular, Grant, is pretty good.

Kids Club happened this past Tuesday. Brandon said it pretty well. I guess there were around 10-12 kids. Like I said before Brandon is in charge of the Psalms.

We went to Bret and Alex's house Monday to watch the Super Bowl. How exciting was that game? The only downer was that there were no American ads, only aussie ones. They were all really lame and repetitive. Oh well, never thought I would be sad due to the lack of commercials :-)

Some pictures and a Movie

I just got around to editing pictures from our Mom's visit down here so I thought I'd post the links to them. I added photo titles, deleted a bunch (still around 200) and added a bunch more in a second album. Once again you don't have to sign in, just click on "View Slideshow." Have a look if you're game:

Meggy's Mustang is in a movie. Check out the trailer and other stuff here. Clearly this will be the first car to win an Oscar.
