Conversations with a toddler and preschooler cont.

So tonight we were talking about growing up. I told the kids that when they have their own kids I would be their kids' grandma. They thought that was pretty funny. Ha, me a grandma!

I then asked them what they would name their kids. Here are the names Jolene and Adele have picked out so far.

Jolene: "Lily, Snowflake, Spot, and Butterfly"
Adele: "Pink sparkly heart, pink sparkly heart butterfly, and pink sparkly heart spot"

Me:"Those are all very unique names and I have never met anyone going by any of those names."

Me: "Did you know Gideon will be a daddy when he has kids?"
Jolene: "But he has to find a girl first."
Me: "Yes, that is true."
Adele: "I'm his girl!"
Me: "Wellll, that is not really allowed."
Gideon: gives Adele a big shove and wrestles with her on the couch.

Early one morning, right before Brandon left for work, Adele stumbled out of her bed and said...

"Daddy are you a pirate?"
Brandon:  *laughing  "No Adele, now go back to bed"
Adele: *stumbles back to bed

This question probably arose due to a library book we recently read. The book was about a daddy who didn't work in an office like the little boy thought. His daddy was a real pirate. After reading that book Adele asked me if Brandon was a pirate. I told her she would have to ask him.

Yesterday as we were getting into the car Jolene starts drawing in the dew on the side of the car.

She asks "Daddy, what's this?"
Brandon: "a flower? a starfish?"
"no, no, dad, it's in a book."
I'm (Brandon) grasping at straws... "an atom?"
"yes, that's it"

Tonight we had gnocchi with cream, bacon, and nuts. Yum, yum. Anyway saying gnocchi is fun and this is the conversation that ensued.
 gnocchi!"

Adele: "nocci"
Jolene: "No, not nocci. It's gnocchi.
Jolene: "Lockin up the gnocchi!"
The girls are both giggling now

Adele: "We have a friend Jasmine and she has a friend named Lochy" (Actually Lochy is her brother, but not important)

Jolene: "Lochy lockin up the gnocchi!"

More giggles

Arriving at church

Jolene not getting out of the car: "I can't walk to church my feet are weary."

Me: "Jolene we are about 10 feet away, I think you can manage."

Jolene's body suddenly liquefies.  We somehow manage to bottle her up and carry her into church.

Adele at the dinner table.

Adele: " Mom you are an apple, Jolene is a cake, I'm a brownie, Daddy is a strawberry and Gideon is a sandwich.

Me:" Hmmm, that is interesting. Why are you a brownie?"

Adele: "I don't know, I just am"

Adele stubs her little toe on the door. The little toe has a very, very tiny cut which is bleeding.

Adele: *crying very hard* "I will never walk again!!"

Gideon: "Whe Daddee? Daddeeeeeee?"

Gideon is on our bed watching Brandon change out of his work clothes. Note: this happens every evening

Gideon: "Daa da daa da daa daaaa!"  Translation #1: "Nan a nan a nan ahh!" Translation #2 : "You can't get me!"

Adele : "Grandma, it says here in the Bible, that you are silly"

Adele : "Jolene, are you my best friend?"

Jolene : "Yes"

Adele : "Jolene, are you my best friend?"

Jolene : "I already said yes!"

Jolene : "Mom, would you imagine if a house was pink and everything inside was pink!"

Mom : "That would be a lot of pink!"

Jolene : giggles "yeah"

Adele : "I do not like spider crabs"

I know I just posted one of these but this made me laugh today.

Jolene and I were talking about when Brandon was a little boy.

Jolene: "When Daddy was little then who was my daddy?"

Me: "Well, you were not born yet."

Jolene:"I didn't exist, you mean."

Me:"Yes, thats right."

Jolene:"Was I in a hotel?"

Jolene:"Why do you have a little smile?"

Adele: When I get older I going to fly to space.

Me: Oh yeah?

Adele: With Daddy.

Jolene: You have to work really hard to go to the moon.

Adele: I tink I hear sumping outside. I tink its rabbits.

Me: Rabbits?

Adele: Baaaaaddd rabbbits!

Some of Adele's favorite sayings when I say we need to clean up her room or that she has to eat her dinner.

"I weally don't feel well"

"I'm sick"

"This is not my favorite"

Happy Birthday Jolene!

Jolene turned four today. We are thankful God has given her to us. She is a blessing to have.

Conversations with toddlers cont....

Jolene talking to Brandon's parents over Skype: "When I come to your house at Christmas you can open my present for you."

"I can't give it to you now because there is no window." (Meaning no window in the computer that she can pass the gift through.)

Jolene: "I have a breakfast number for my bike. So they can find it."

Context: A few weeks ago Brandon was telling her about how her bike has a serial number on it. He told her the serial number helps the police identify her bike if it is stolen and then found.

Get it, breakfast number:serial (cereal to Jolene) number.

Chicken bones, bottom? Peppers inside peppers! Move it. Visits from the other side. Encourage.

Well, just finished a 750+ page book in about a day and a half. Thought I should do something different now, like write.

I have to admit that the book I just read was not anything of substance but I still enjoyed it. Especially when the characters all began to whip out their special superhero powers in preparation for the battle of the millennium.

Recent events in our lives are as follows:

1. I recently had the joy of extracting a few chicken bones from Jolene's bottom end. She now knows the consequence of not chewing her food. Thankfully the bones didn't pierce her stomach/intestines, could have been a much longer story it they had.

2. Two weekends ago Brandon and I had the pleasure of attending a Sri Lankan wedding reception. The groom is someone from Brandon's work. They were married in Sri Lanka and had a reception over here for friends and family. It wasn't extremely different to most receptions except for the following:
a)we didn't eat until 9pm
b)they served the wedding cake before the meal
c)the food consisted of mainly curries (yum). One of which contained large peppers stuffed with other peppers. Of course Brandon trying to fit in ate half of a large pepper and subsequently cried involuntarily for 5-10 minutes. I told him not to eat it, so I didn't feel very sorry for him when his stomach began to do odd things and feel as if it was on fire.

I was able to meet B's boss as well as some of the co-workers. That was nice. We were asked by a few why we lived here and were able to tell our story (to be Christians in Australia).

We left the kids with the Blackwoods (great babysitters). Our first night away from all the children in about 6 months! Party on! No not really, we got back around 11 and promptly went to bed. Well, except for me who was in the middle of reading a vampire book and decided to stay up for a "bit" longer.

3. Gideon is about to crawl! He just turned 6 months, this is much earlier than the girls. He does this push-up move where he is on his hands and toes with his belly hovering above the floor. Sometimes he will get his knees in the proper place and start rocking back and forth. This usually ends up with him doing a face plant into the carpet. He is getting better :-)

4. Jacob, Addie, and Moriah Fisher will be flying out here on April 25th. Jacob will be staying for almost 3 weeks and the girls for 7. After the girls leave my parents will be arriving a few days later and staying for three weeks. So we will have family living with us for almost three months! Hooray!

5. Ken and Floy Smith are over here right now worshiping with us. It is great seeing them again. They are such an encouragement. Ken is leading the adult Sunday school class, covering church planting, as well as preaching in the morning. Church planting is a new idea for several at church. It is good to have Ken's wealth of knowledge on the subject at hand as our congregation wrestles with the idea of planting. Aside from that it is encouraging to see the zeal Ken and Floy have for evangelism and discipleship.

Adele singing Jingle Bells: "Jing-ga-jing, jing-ga-jing, jing-ga-jing"...repeat for the next several minutes.

Adele praying at night: "Tank oo (thank you) pool, um um um, pardee (party), ummm um um pool, tank oo pardee, um, pool, ummm umu um..."

Brandon: "Amen"

Adele: "Amen"

We had been talking to Jolene about marriage and weddings and she asked us this

Jolene: "Do you have to pay to get married?"

What the girls were up to after leaving them alone for a few minutes. They started out with clothes on.

Conversations with a toddler cont....

Jolene: "In my bed I dream ballerinas"

Brandon: Having a serious conversation about spiritual matters with us around the dinner table.

Jolene: "Daddy, you look like jam"

Us: "What?, what did you say Jolene?"

Jolene: "Daddy looks like strawberry jam"

Us: "Ummm ok, is that b/c he has a red jumper (sweater) on?"

Jolene: "Yes"

Us: "ok"

Jolene: "I don't want Gideon to wee on my pictures"

Us: "No, we didn't want him to wee on your pictures either"

Brandon: "Mommy didn't cover him fast enough"

Megan: "Sorry Jolene, I think we will have to throw that picture away, its a bit wet."

Nothing yet

I thought I would let you all know that we are still waiting.

I will be induced on Tuesday morning if nothing has happened before then. You could pray that it doesn't come to that...I have never heard anyone speak highly of being induced.

I rearranged all the furniture in the back bedroom the other day. That included moving a bed with mattress, two book shelves full of books, a couple of chairs, desk, and rug. This was of course in the hopes that I would go into labor. Instead of labor I just wasn't able to move the rest of the evening :-)

Thankfully Brandon didn't have to leave today. The machine is still being built and probably won't be done until the middle of next week. I guess that means he will probably won't have to go anywhere next week...just the two after that. Not really sure but I am thankful I won't have to call him to say that I am in labor.

Brandon is sick right now...he only takes a nap when he really feels bad. I think he gave it to me...I feel it in my throat and head. Hopefully it won't get too bad...yuck being sick and going through labor, not a big fan.

Well this isn't so cheery sounding, is it? How about we end on a more happy note.

We took the girls to the beach this evening. I told Jolene that the water was cold and that she shouldn't get her clothes wet. Her pants were soaked in about five minutes. Adele on the other hand was very careful not to get her feet wet. She did splash herself in the face which she promptly came and showed us.

Adele now calls Jolene "Jean". It is very cute when Adele asks for her..."Jean, where are you?"

Like at the beach today. Adele couldn't see Jolene so she was walking around the beach saying "Jean, where are you?"

It makes me smile.
