THEM 3

Brandon showed up at an inspection the other day in his work clothes and riding his push bike. The lady showing the house didn't want to give him an application. We are now treating these inspections as job interviews, wear a suit and rent a nice car to drive up in. Oh and if it were not wrong, tell them we don't have any kids.

That's Goofy. I love the principle of judging a book by its cover. What a worldly, terrible, yucky thing!!!! :P

There's a clothes shop down in the Loop I walked by today, that has "as a professional man you are judged by your appearance" emblazoned on the window. Wish I wouldn't have shopped there for Tom once. :P

I like to dress down; it feels nice and I don't care about fashion much, really.

Jenn, we need your phone number! We need to talk about when we are going to hang out together.

There is an important Biblical principle that we need to remember here. "Man sees the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart"- 1 Samuel 16:7 Man can only see the outward appearance; only God can see the heart. We went through all this in the '70s. People rebelled against being judged by the way they looked and would say something like, "How can you judge me by my appearance; you don't know me". But, you see, that is exactly the problem. People cannot see your heart (know you) on first meeting so they have no choice but to judge on outward things. Lesson #1: It is unfair to expect people who "don't know you" to know you or to be like God and see into your heart. On what other basis would you have them form an opinion on first meeting? Lesson #2: Be sure that your outward appearance matches your heart - who you are. If you are a young (or old) professional, dress like it when a good first impression is important. If a renter is looking for a clean, upstanding, responsible, person to rent to then it might be important to at least appear to be a clean, upstanding, responsible person. I love you all but this is the real world and complaining about it won't help.

Thanks Dad,
I guess I wasn't trying to complain....much :-) In our defense though, it is not easy looking good when they only call a half hour before they are wanting to show us a house. It is kind of hard to look presentable, get the kids in the car, and get to a house in 30 minutes. That doesn't happen all the time but it has a few times and usually does not help us in making a good impression. Usually I am too rushed to get there to then calm down and actually talk to the owner.
